Abstract: I compared fixed-wing aerial pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) composition survey estimates to ground survey estimates at 4 locations in Wyoming during 1993, and at 3 locations during 1994. I also compared individual observer's composition estimates both years. Aerial surveys produced significantly lower adult buck ratio estimates than ground surveys at 1 site during 1993 (P=0.03), and 2 sites during 1994 (p=0.03, p<0.01). Fixed-wing aerial surveys also produced lower fawn ratios than ground surveys at 1 site during 1994 (P=0.03, P=0.04). Observers' ratio estimates were similar for both air and ground during 1993 P< 0.01) and ground (P=0.05, P<0.02) surveys at 2 sites, and yearling buck ratios differed between observers during air (P=0.02) and ground (P<0.01) surveys at 1 site, during 1994. Neither fixed-wing or ground survey ratios were consistently more precise and observer precision was similar among individuals. Fixed-wing aerial surveys required significantly less time but cost more than ground surveys at all sites both years.
