Abstract: Objectives Assess amphibian status and distribution in GRTE, as part of Department of Interior''s Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative (ARMI). Assessment is based on: (1) surveys of potential habitat in randomly selected hydrological units; and (2) special surveys for priority species (Northern Leopard Frog,Boreal Toad, Bullfrog). Findings and Status Findings of priority species surveys in 2000: Northern Leopard Frog: Surveyed 8 areas where leopard frogs were previously observed. None found. Boreal Toad: Surveyed 3 breeding sites that were known to be active in the past decade. Found breeding at 2 of these sites. Bullfrog: Breeding population (introduced non-native species) at Kelly Warm Springs is robust, all life stages present, tadpoles dispersing downstream. No other amphibian species present in this area. Surveys in hydrological units were not conducted in 2000 due to lack of the necessary GIS layer, which is currently being prepared by GRTE. We plan to conduct these surveys in 2001.
