Abstract: Objectives The objectives are to determine the current status of the native Jackson Lake springsnail, Pyrgulopsis robusta (Walker) in Polecat Creek, which is now invaded by the exotic New Zealand mudsnail, Potamopyrgus antipodarum (Gray), and to obtain a DNA sample that will be used in a major analysis of the western North American species of Pyrgulopsis by Robert Hershler. (see also http://www.esg.montana.edu/dlg/alm/etc/teton_pr.html) Findings and Status As of June 26, 2000 Pyrgulopsis robusta remains in lower Polecat Creek, but it is outnumbered by Potamopyrgus antipodarum by about 2,000 to 1. The survival of the native species in this area seems doubtful. A shell, body and DNA sample were placed in the National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian Institution) and a few shells were returned to the Park..
