Abstract: This is Murie's classic publication on biology, ecology, and management of elk. Much of the data are drawn from his long-term studies of the Jackson elk herd. From population ecology to behavior and biopolitics, Murie's skill and perceptiveness as an observer of elk were remarkable. Murie first detected brucellosis in elk of the GYA and discussed the relationship of the disease to elk management in this book.
