Abstract: Objectives To determine the winter habitat use of Snake River Cutthroat and to monitor movements in response to changing temperatures and spawning migrations using radio telemetry. Microhabitat variables such as water depth, cover, water velocity and substrate are recorded at fish locations. Locations are recorded using the GPS. Findings and Status Snake River Cutthroat are using a variety of habitats, with deep runs, pools, and backwater habitats the most frequently used areas. Several backwater areas used by SRCT have ground water influence and are 1-4 degrees warmer than the main river channel. Depth, large boulders, and shelf ice are the most frequently used cover during winter. Fish implanted with radio transmitters do not appear to be making long distance migrations.
